Intro

Instigated by the theme 'Politics' at Prague’s Quadrennial, and understanding the part of the scenographer as the one who creates new approaches of the interaction of visual arts with the city, we present our creative process.

Choosing as a field of action the city of São Paulo, our work focuses on the Pinheiros River and on the reflexes of its rectification process on the urban dynamic, that made its waterways loose their part as protagonists of the living in the city’s public space.

Inside the industrial logic that has stroke the country in the ‘30s and ‘40s, the river, which was a place of leisure enjoyed by its inhabitants but, above all, also a resort for many small producers, was channelized and had its course reversed. Its areas of dales were urbanized and occupied (using the river as sewage); highways were built on its banks, resulting in isolation between the Pinheiros River and the population.

On this project, we registered our reflections around the conflict between the river, the city and politics, as well as our actions of intervention on the public space, where the natural course of the Pinheiros River used to run by.
